Sparkly Pink and a winner

Today I didn't really feel anything in my polish collection. Nothing really jumped out and said "USE ME!" so I just picked something I haven't tried before. What I picked was Wet N Wild Fast Dry Hannah Pinktana.
I was not impressed with the brush because half of it was sticking straight out to the side. The polish itself was fine, went on pretty well and I didn't have any major issues. I wasn't all that impressed with it though. It is a bubble gummy pink with sparkles nothing to really wow me. Then I went outside and Holy Cow! My opinion changed drastically as soon as the sun hit it. There are so many colors in it, I couldn't believe it. It is just gorgeous, when it is outside, I'm still not that excited about it inside.

Inside:

Outside, these pics don't show how pretty it really is:

If you read my Red or Green post yesterday you would have seen that I was giving away 2 of the polishes I used. All you had to do was leave a comment letting me know if you preferred the red or green. Four people posted so I went to random.org and put in 1-4. The four people were:
1. jennafroggy
2. Sara
3. Nail Art Epicness
4. imfeelingnail-venturous

And the winner is:
Congratulations to Jennafroggy. I will be sending you a message shortly. :)

Red or Green

Wet N Wild - Wild Shine in Whose Lips Are These and Tipsy on the Bubbly

OR

Wet N Wild - Fast Dry in Sage in the City and The Gold and The Beautiful

Obviously not the best manicures but I was just trying out new things. I do like the way they look though so I will probably do them again and try and do it better.
Which one is your favorite? Leave your choice in a comment below and I will draw one winner who will get both of the colors that they picked. I will draw a winner tomorrow night.

Pretty Pink

Today I used another one of my new Barielle polishes. It is called Pretty Pink and is from the new line.
The color itself is a very pretty soft pink and the formula is as smooth as the others I have tried. If you look closely at your nails you can see brush strokes but it is not evident if you aren't looking closely. I used 3 coats to make sure that the coverage was good.
The interesting thing was when I put on my top coat. I used Seche Vite and saw the polish crinkle up on my middle and pointer finger. It was very bizarre to watch. I do believe that was an issue with the top coat and not the polish. You can see it in the pictures but it is more evident in person.

Inside
You can see the crinkling pretty well in this picture.

Ends today! hurry! Picture Polish Give Away!

 http://paillettepolishjournal.blogspot.com/2011/09/picture-polish-give-away.html

Paillette is giving away 3 picture polish polishes. Giveaway ends today so hurry over!

My First Franken

If you remember I posted about getting some Cover Girl Nailslicks from the dollar store. The purple is a gorgeous color, unfortunately it was extremely runny and wouldn't harden, at all. Even with using Seche Vite on it. :(

It bothered me all night that I was going to have to waste the whole thing. Then this morning I figured I would try and use it in a franken polish. I really had no idea what I was doing but thought I would give it a shot.

I dug around in my polish looking for something that may work with it when I found this:
These are both Wet N Wild Wild Shine. One is Caribbean Frost and the other is the new 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. So I would say if you are going to pick up the new collection double check what you have first since it appears they may be re-releasing colors. :(  They look even closer to the same polish in person.

These are the colors I pulled out to use (and used)
Pumpkin Polish silver and black glitter,
Wet N Wild Wild Shine Carribean Frost,
CG Nailslicks Sheer Orchid, Wet N Wild Fast Dry Buffy the Violet Slayer,
CG Iceslicks  Pink Ice, Sinful Colors Pearl Harbor,
Wet N Wild Wild Shine French White

I wasn't sure how much of what to use so just kind of dumped some stuff in, then dumped some out to add more stuff until I got something I thought might be okay. It was still a little runny so I dumped in some Seche Vite.
It seems to have worked because it hardened when I used it. I am happy that I came up with a color that I like and actually works. The other colors I got at the dollar tree aren't quite as thin as this one, but I'm not holding my breath that they will work alone. I might have to use them for frankens later on. I will try them alone first though.
Here is my first franken. :) It doesn't have a name.

Barielle Elle's Spell

I picked this color because I saw someone post a picture of it and I fell in love with it. It turns out it is just as pretty in real life. Barielle describes it as "Jelly Red with multi colored foil flakes"
This is 3 coats layered over Barielle Brown Sparkles. I was a little concerned after the first coat because it was really sheer and I couldn't see any of the flakes. You can see that by the 3rd coat neither of those were an issue. I don't think that you would really need to layer this one. I think it would be great on it's own. Next time I wear it I won't layer it and see how it does.
I wish I could have taken a picture of what they looked like when I was driving, the flakes were green and orange. This is a dangerous color to wear while driving because it is slightly distracting with how pretty it is and how it changes! :)
The pictures aren't that great because Fall has hit the Pacific Northwest and the sun has decided it does not want to show itself. I think pictures in sun are going to be a lot harder to get now.

As you can see this is a really pretty red
Blurry picture to show you the pretty pretty flakes.

And just because this picture is super cute I have to show you all The Old Man. If he is laying down then his tongue is sticking out. It gets to the point that the tip of it will dry out. I still find it super cute. :)
Please excuse the baseboard under the cabinet.
It isn't dirty, it needs to be repainted, badly!

Dollar Store Finds

No new manicure today because I am still loving the Barielle Brown Sparkles from yesterday. Instead I have to show you what I found today.
Dori over at Kiss My Acetone posted that she had found some old Cover Girl nail polish at her Dollar Tree. It was an orange glitter, so of course I had to go see if mine had it. I dragged my son out to the dollar store with me to see what I could find. My Dollar Tree usually doesn't have much in it, just the LA Color polishes, but this time they did! The guy that was stocking the shelves was looking at me like I was crazy since I was taking all the polish off the hooks to see what combinations that they had.
The Cover Girl Nailslicks is probably at least 10 years old. When I searched for them I came up with stuff from as close as earlier this year and as long ago as 2001. I figured for 50 cents each bottle I could try it out though.
This is what I came home with:

Sheer Orchid and Sand Castle

Arctic and Pink Rose

Midnight Forest and Lime Blossom
(please ignore the child in the background, he was making himself some food. lol!)

Then while walking to the check out I saw these on an end cap. I couldn't pass up polish that comes out to 33 cents each, since they were all in a pack together. They don't have color names or numbers but they looked like pretty colors. The middle one isn't black. It is a dark dark purple.

I also got a set of nail jewels. They aren't something I have used before so I figured a dollar was a good starting price to see if I would like them. I would show you those but the batteries in my camera died. I really need to get some rechargeable ones for it. I also bought my son a Mt. Dew lip balm since I dragged him out with me. :)

So have you found any good deals lately?

The Kracked Kat: You Name It Giveaway

The Kracked Kat: You Name It Giveaway:
I hit 25 followers little later than I had hoped, but my first giveaway is now a go! Wondering why I would celebrate just 25 followers? I ...

Barielle Brown Sparkles

My Barielle order showed up today so I had to take off the polish I did earlier and try it out. I am so glad that I did! It is a heavenly formula that goes on so smooth. I can't wait to try the other colors, but I am in love with this one so it might take me a day or two to change it. This is Brown Sparkles, which is described on the Barielle website as a light brown with sparkles.
As you can see in the pictures it doesn't look extremely brown, although you can see a hint of brown in the enlarged pictures. It looks almost silverish..so either it is more of a silver-brown or I got the wrong polish. Either way it is a gorgeous color.
Inside

Outside

Outside

I know that some of the edges might look a little off but that is because my nails start to curve in there. I have no idea if it is something I can fix or not, I just deal with it.
Any glitter on my hands was leftover from removing the pink polish from earlier.

Pink for my Son

I asked my son what color I should use today. He picked pick. I don't really have any pinks but told him I would do my best. I was hoping that my order from Barielle would show up today because there are 2 pinks in it, but it wasn't here by the time I was doing them. This is what I came up with for Pink for my Son.

Sally Hansen Nail Growth Miracle in Honor
2 coats

Wet N Wild Pop The Cork
2 coats

I love how there is a noticeable sparkle on my ring finger from the sun
(might need to enlarge the picture to see it)

The Sally Hansen was really nice.I loved the flattened brush and how easy it made it to apply. It went on really well, but you can see some brush strokes. It is still a very pretty color.
The Wet N Wild went on like most glitters. I did have to touch up some spots, and I missed a couple, but it isn't really obvious if you just glance at them. If you examine them you can see the spots. The outside pictures kind of makes the glitter look dirty but it doesn't really look like that. I am not sure why they came out that way.
All in all I really like this one, and my son said it was perfect so I guess it is a hit.

Glow in the Dark and Crackle

I may be kind of late on the crackle band wagon but I really like it. I was at Rite Aid the other day and found these cute little pumpkin polishes.

They go on pretty well, but are thin and, I guess, chalky would be the best word for it. It took about 5 coats for it to be a uniform color. However even then it was like someone sprinkled flour over them. That might be the part that makes it glow, I don't know. I just knew I didn't want to leave it that way, although once the top coat was on it it didn't look that bad.
I love crackles. I just think they look neat. I found some crackle at Walgreens that were 2 for $5.  They are 2012 brand by Cherimoya. It may not be the best crackle out there but since I wasn't sure if I was even going to like doing it I didn't want to spend a lot on it.
These are what I came up with:
Purple Glow with Evolution by 2012

Orange glow with Innocence by 2012

The cool thing about this glow in the dark is it actually glowed through the crackle. I really wish I could have been able to get a picture of them glowing, because they were pretty bright. My camera just wouldn't pick it up.
Obviously these pictures were taken before I had done any cleanup on them. Sorry about that.

Base and Top Coats

I am wondering what everyone uses for base and top coats.
I picked up Nail Envy for a base coat and Seche Vite for a top coat after reading about them both on various blogs. However I don't think I need the Nail Envy. My nails are pretty strong to begin with. I have been using it on my husband though since he has been a nail biter for years and is trying to stop, so it won't get wasted if I get something else. I think I need to get a ridge filler but am unsure what to get.
I got the Seche Vite because I have read on multiple blogs that it is a quick dry top coat. Don't get me wrong I love that it will dry all layers of my polish. I was the queen of smudged polish since I didn't have the patience to wait for them all to dry. I also love how shiny it makes my nails. I don't love that it seems to shrink polishes. I looked online and noticed that I'm not the only one that it happens too.
So what base and top coats do you use? I really want to stick with a quick dry top coat, but am not sure which one to get.

Not What I Planned On Using

This is not the manicure I had planned on doing. I was going to use Zoe by Julep. They describe Zoe as "A zesty, smoky burnt umber." Which of course means it is an orange color, and since orange is my favorite color I want to use it. However, while digging though my polish I came across my bottle of Sinful Colors Pearl Harbor. I knew I wanted to use it but didn't want to put it over Zoe. So I dug through the rest of my stuff looking for a good color and came across Julep Molly.
I got both of the colors, plus other items, when I got my first Julep Maven box. If you haven't heard of it Julep Maven is a monthly box you get with sneak peek items, it cost $20. I got my first one with a 50% off coupon, so for what I got it wasn't a bad deal. I do think that the bottles are a little small since they are only 8mL, while my other polishes range anywhere from 11mL to 15mL.  However, after using Molly I don't seem to mind that as much. Plus they are a company from Washington State and being a Pacific Northwest girl I want to try and support local companies.
Molly went on really well. The formula was very smooth and creamy. I could have easily gotten away with only using on coat. I used two but I don't think that was needed. The color is a beautiful red, normally I am not a big fan of reds but this one is gorgeous and I can see wearing it often. I hope that the other polishes from Julep are as nice as this one is.
Julep Molly

I then put 2 thin coats of Sinful Colors Pearl Harbor. This is such a pretty glitter, words can't really describe it. You just need to see the pictures.

Apparently I didn't get all the glitter off my fingers when I took off my earlier color

Even the pictures don't do this glitter justice. It gives your nails an almost holo appearance. I couldn't capture it with my camera though. :(
I can see this combo being a go-to around Christmas.

I took this on my walk tonight.
This is more what it looks like when you just get a glimpse of it.
So Pretty!

Let's Celebrate Collection (pic heavy)

Today I tested out the Wet N Wild Let's Celebrate collection. I did 2 coats of each, except the glitter which is one coat.
I didn't use a base or top coat since I wasn't going to be keeping them on for long. I also didn't do any clean up so they are a bit sloppy. I have plans to do a different manicure tonight.

These all covered well in 2 coats, although they probably would have been great with a base coat. I like them all but was surprised with how much I like Whose Lips Are These. I can see myself using it quite a bit.
